how not to ask a girl out

so, last week on the plane we were going from LAX to SFO and it was a very light flight. i was standing in the back talking to a Netjets pilot that was headed to SFO to start a trip. we were just talking and then he tells me that he's just going to "lay something out" for me and this is what he tells me ~

"i'm 38 years old. i own my home in huntington beach. i have a good job. i've been in two long term relationships but i've never been married and i don't have kids. i don't want to get married or have kids. so don't try to change my mind on that in 4 years. i normally don't date flight attendants but i thought i'd give you a chance"

wow. well, i'm going to say no the date but if you ever need someone to stay at your house while your gone let me know.

can you believe he was surprised that i said no to that offer!? i told him that i couldn't believe he thought i'd say yes to that. then we had a whole weird conversation after that about dating. with quality offers like this i don't know why i'm still single........

the anatomy of the perfect flight attendant!

hello friends & family!!

it's been a long time since i've written but after many requests to start writing again.....i'm back! :) since my job seems to be everyone's favorite topic i'll start back with something that i've been thinking about. i've decided what would make up the perfect flight attendant and i'm going to warn you it's not pretty.

the perfect flight attendant
~ would always smile even when being yelled at by a passenger trying to express his/her concern about something that we have no control over.
~ would have hips, thighs and a butt of steel (literally) which would be dual purpose
1. it would bend the fingers of the sweet passengers that insist on poking us in these spots to get our attention
2. it would protect us from elbows, suitcases and armrests in turbulance
~ would wear cargo pants to be able to carry everything a passenger might need as we are walking through the aisle.
~ would have 4 full length arms and 2 of them would be retractable but all of them would be able to extend all the way to the window. the extending feature would be especially helpful to the passengers that suffer from T-Rex arms once they sit down in their seat. multiple sets of arms would be great for the passengers that have ordered more than one drink so they don't even have to wait a second for us to hand them their 2nd drink because we could hold our tray and give them all of their drinks at once.
~ would have exceptional hearing and could read lips. so, we don't have to ask the passengers that insist on whispering their drink orders a million times what they want to drink because we can't hear a word they are saying. people we are standing in a wind tunnel!! you need to talk in a normal to loud volume for us to hear you when we are standing in the aisle.

so, there it is the anatomy of the perfect flight attendant. not so cute and not great for everyday use but works out perfectly on the plane. :)

riding with my boys

it's been awhile since i last wrote not sure why.....cuz i feel like i have lots of free time on my hands. i do have some airplane stories to share with you but i will write those later. today i have a funny little story about the boys (one of my favorite subjects) ~ today i ran out to run a couple quick errands and had the boys with me before i got home i drove through the drive through at wendys to get an ice tea. the boys were in the way back and i had the windows rolled down so jack was leaning over the seat to get his head out as far as he could. i placed my order then pulled up to the first window to pay. the guy at the window opens it and says "hey, lady. did you have a polar bear in the back of your car?" yeah, i know. "man, he's so big!" then gunner (not wanting to miss out on the action) pops his head through the window. well, this startles the guy and he kind of jumps back. which of course makes me laugh (i know i'm not right). he then says to gunner "easy guy i'm just talking to your lady don't get me!!" i assured him that he was fine on his side of the window. then he starts in on the normal questions ~ how much do i feed them? have they ever bit anyone? do they scare people? then for some reason gunner barks at the guy and he just slams his little window closed! which makes me start laughing again which made it hard to scold gunner at the same time. finally another person came to the window laughing and told me that the guy got nervous and didn't want to bring me my tea. :) oh, these dogs just crack me up sometimes......

wild burros

so, today i was hiking out of First Creek when a guy hiking in told me that i should put my dogs on leashes because the burros were just up the path. i was pretty excited because i had heard that there were burros all over Red Rocks but i hadn't seen them yet. i kept walking down the trail hoping that i hadn't missed them and all the sudden there they were! just standing there grazing off the side of the trail. there were 6 of them ~ 2 blonde ones and the rest were darker in color. i couldn't believe that they just stood there and didn't run off when we walked up. thankfully the boys were tired so they weren't that interested in them. you can't see him in these pictures but there was a burro standing off to the right that was having a staring contest with gunner. he kept braying at gunner and making these other noises at him. i'm not sure if the burro was trying to talk to gunner or trying to figure out what gunner was. they could have been ear twins. :) for those of you that don't know gunner he is my german shepard that has ears that stick straight up in the air and they are a bit on the big side. i was just standing there watching the burros and the longer i stood there the closer they came. they were actually closer than what you can tell from this picture. i didn't have my camera with me so these pictures were taken with my phone. i was standing there wondering how close they would actually get when this group of dumb girls came around the corner and they started screaming "aaaaahhhh, horses! horses!". ok, one don't scream when you see wild animals and two they aren't horses. gggrrrr! at that point the burros got spooked and ran back. thankfully the girls weren't interested so they kept walking. i stood there for a bit longer to see if they would come back and they slowly started walking back towards me. at this point my fair skin was needing to get out of the sun so i started walking down the trail again. i turned back at one point to see all 6 of them following behind me. then something spooked the biggest one in the group and they all ran off at that point. i just thought it was a pretty cool sighting and wanted to share it with you. happy st. patrick's day!!

the big las vegas snow storm

so, i'm sure by now you all have heard about the freak snow storm that we had in las vegas this week. come to find out that they didn't start recording snow fall in vegas until about 30 years ago. (if i'm remembering that correctly) so, this was the largest amount of snow fall recorded in las vegas in it's history. come to find out that the airport here doesn't not have a snow removal system which basically means that they don't have snow plows. they have a limited number of de-icing trucks for the planes that basically translates to hours and hours of delays at the airport. last wednesday the airport closed at 4pm (officially) due to visibility and ice. the airport opened back up thursday morning but was moving pretty slow. they actually had the rampers outside trying to SWEEP the snow/ice off the ramps and taxi way. the one guy i saw with a shovel was scooping out the luggage ramps that lead from the top of the jetway to the bottom. but the best thing i saw at the airport that day was the street sweeper. they had one street sweeper trying to sweep the snow away. i finally decided he was really just compacting the snow and not really clearing it which i didn't think was better. i will have to say that the passengers were in surprisingly good moods considering the large number of people that had to spend the night in the airport after waiting all day for planes that never came or went. which made my job a whole lot easier. that's the worst thing for me when you have delays like this is dreading all the crabby passengers that are about to board the plane. i was pleasantly surprised when one happy face after another walked on board. needless to say i've had some really long days this week and i'm looking forward to a few days off. i just need to make it through this week and i'm good to go!

a winter wonderland

ok, i'm bummed thes pics turned out so dark but it's very overcast here today. hopefully you can see the snow in these pics. these are the mountains that are behind my house. i wish i had a picture of my little palm tree when it was all snowy but it had melted by morning. it looked really cute all covered in snow. it's been cracking me up to watch the news the last couple days because they are doing a winter storm watch here. but it's supposed to be in the 40s for the rest of the week. a little part of me wants to call and tell them that it won't snow when it's this warm but i don't want to break their hearts. the weather men here are so excited to be following this storm! :) hope you all are staying warm in your winter weather. i know some areas of the country are just getting slammed. i think this is the worst of it for us at least for awhile anyway.....

fashion tips from 30,000 feet

ok, guys this one is for you so PLEASE read it carefully!

~ if you are wearing a polar fleece, a turtle neck and cargo pants there are multiple shoe choices to go with this outfit but super shiny dress shoes are not one of them.

~ speaking of turtle necks there are very few guys that can pull them off. so, if you are thinking about wearing one proceed with caution.

~ sweatpants should never be worn in public unless you are in the process of working out but even then there are better options. just trust me on this one.

~ if you are wearing really baggy shorts you have to wear underwear! if you choose not to wear underwear both feet must stay firmly planted on the ground. if not you will be called Captain Morgan over the PA. i don't want to have to do that but come on!!

~ silky dress shirts were never really that in style when they first came out so all these years later they are officially dead. so, if you own a shirt that can be described as silky just let it go. it's time....

~ if you have thinning hair please embrace this. i know losing your hair must be a very difficult thing to deal with but thinning hair or no hair is much more attractive than plugs or a rug. plus you aren't fooling anyone.

~ normally when you buy a suit or a blazer there is a cloth tag on the sleeve. this tag is meant to be cut off once you are ready to wear it. the tag inside you can leave but the tag on the sleeve must go. remember your flight attendants don't carry scissors anymore so there is only so much we can do to help you on the plane.

~ man jewerly. where do i start? a watch, a wedding ring, a class ring these are all tasteful. but big earrings, pinky rings, lots of chains and bracelets aren't good. this much man jewerly is just kind of creepy which i'm sure isn't the look you are going for.

~ the tight t-shirt again there are very few people that can pull this look off. so, if you are making an attempt with this fashion statement think long and hard about it. when you look at yourself in the mirror also check yourself out from the side and then be brutally honest with yourself.

but i will have to say for the most part guys you do have way less fashion offenses than the ladies do so keep up the good work!
