so, today i was hiking out of First Creek when a guy hiking in told me that i should put my dogs on leashes because the burros were just up the path. i was pretty excited because i had heard that there were burros all over Red Rocks but i hadn't seen them yet. i kept walking down the trail hoping that i hadn't missed them and all the sudden there they were! just standing there grazing off the side of the trail. there were 6 of them ~ 2 blonde ones and the rest were darker in color. i couldn't believe that they just stood there and didn't run off when we walked up. thankfully the boys were tired so they weren't that interested in them. you can't see him in these pictures but there was a burro standing off to the right that was having a staring contest with gunner. he kept braying at gunner and making these other noises at him. i'm not sure if the burro was trying to talk to gunner or trying to figure out what gunner was. they could have been ear twins. :) for those of you that don't know gunner he is my german shepard that has ears that stick straight up in the air and they are a bit on the big side. i was just standing there watching the burros and the longer i stood there the closer they came. they were actually closer than what you can tell from this picture. i didn't have my camera with me so these pictures were taken with my phone. i was standing there wondering how close they would actually get when this group of dumb girls came around the corner and they started screaming "aaaaahhhh, horses! horses!". ok, one don't scream when you see wild animals and two they aren't horses. gggrrrr! at that point the burros got spooked and ran back. thankfully the girls weren't interested so they kept walking. i stood there for a bit longer to see if they would come back and they slowly started walking back towards me. at this point my fair skin was needing to get out of the sun so i started walking down the trail again. i turned back at one point to see all 6 of them following behind me. then something spooked the biggest one in the group and they all ran off at that point. i just thought it was a pretty cool sighting and wanted to share it with you. happy st. patrick's day!!

Pretty cool, but how close were you to them?! Have you ever seen footage of the hunter attacked by the deer? It ain't pretty! :)
Pretty neat being able to see wild burros.
Just started reading your blog. You a so funny Kate. We seem so close, but can't get over there. Hopefully...soon. This was a good story, but be careful. I'm sure Jack could save you!
